Hydroponics & Hybrids...Good for quantity... quality, not so much

Almost all vine crops (tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers for instance) are now grown hydroponically, in a water only solution.  The inputs consist of 5 or 6 industrial chemicals.
 
There is no possibility for microbiological synergies with soil, therefore many pathways for nutrient transport are eliminated, to the detriment of the consumer.
